Why repair comes before refinishing
A new finish over a chip, a rust spot or a flexing fiberglass floor will not hide the problem for long. Repair is the step that makes refinishing worth doing. Small chips and cracks can often be repaired and blended; rust around a drain is treated before it spreads under a coating; and failing earlier coatings are removed or addressed rather than covered.
Some damage is more than cosmetic. A fiberglass tub or shower floor that feels soft or moves underfoot may need support or structural repair, and a crack that lets water through needs attention beyond finishing. Describe what you see and feel, and the assessment will separate surface repair from deeper issues.

Repairs apply to bathtubs, showers, tile and countertops. Some repairs are completed on their own; others are followed by refinishing so the repaired area matches.
Our repair-first process
- 1. Identify the damage. Material, size and cause of each defect, plus any movement, moisture or earlier repair.
- 2. Repair first. We repair before we restore. Cracks, chips, rust and soft spots are repaired before any finish is considered.
- 3. Blend or refinish. Depending on the result you want, the repair is blended or the surface is refinished.
- 4. Confirm the details in writing. Before work begins, ask for written pricing, scheduling, the coating-specific return-to-use instructions and the LIMITED workmanship warranty terms that apply to your property.

- A wide photo of the fixture and a close-up of each defect

- Any leaks or water staining nearby
- Earlier repairs or refinishing history
- Your ZIP code and whether you want repair only or repair and refinish
The estimate form asks for your name, phone, project type and ZIP first. Photos and extra details can be added in the optional next step.
Request EstimatePricing, timing & warranty
No fixed price or cure time is promised on this page. Pricing is provided in writing after the surface is assessed. Curing and return-to-use depend on the coating selected for your project; follow the written ILS instructions for that coating.
ILS offers a 5-year LIMITED workmanship warranty for fully owner-occupied residential properties only: the homeowner lives there and no part is rented. A 1-year LIMITED workmanship warranty applies to all rental and commercial properties, including owner-occupied homes with any portion rented to tenants. Frequently asked questions
- Can a crack in a fiberglass tub be repaired?
- Many cracks can be evaluated for repair. If the floor flexes or feels soft, that needs assessment too, because the support underneath affects whether a repair will hold.
- Can you repair just a chip without refinishing the whole tub?
- Often a chip can be repaired on its own. Color and finish matching depend on the existing surface; ask whether a spot repair or full refinish fits your goal.
- What causes a refinished tub to peel?
- Peeling usually points to an earlier coating that has lost adhesion. The failing coating is addressed during preparation before a new finish is applied.
- How long before I can use the surface again?
- Curing and return-to-use depend on the coating selected for your project. Follow the written ILS instructions for that coating before using the surface.
